saturday personal update: vacation and tiredness edition

I’m going to grab a hold of the precedent I set last weekend and hit you guys with another personal update. There are two reasons behind this second foray into self-focused prattle; first, I’m very tired, very behind, and very frazzled after returning from a week long vacation with my family; and secondly, I actually have a few things to share.

So deal with it.

I’m just kidding with the fake bad ass attitude. I think it’s the 10 hours of driving and very little sleep talking. You know I love you guys.

Vacation!

First things first, vacation. Every year I go to western Kentucky with my family to visit my grandparents. It’s obviously a pretty important tradition and unlike many traditions, it’s actually fun. We spend the week relaxing, fishing, swimming, and eating lots of delicious southern food. I managed to read Now, Discover Your Strengths, Linchpin, and most of The Fellowship of the Ring. All three were pretty great books and I have a feeling the first two are going to generate some future blog posts (heck, FotR might too!).

Running For a Long Time!

Second, I managed to maintain my running schedule while I was on vacation, despite all the distractions. I think this is the first time I’ve successfully continued any sort of fitness routine through vacation and I think that means I’m ready to publicly commit to my next physical challenge: a half marathon. Heather and I will be participating in the Detroit Marathon on October 17th. I’d love to do the full-marathon but I think attempting the half-marathon is more than enough for this year. I’ve been training for the past 3 weeks and I’m confident in my ability to get ready for it in time. I’ll be giving you periodic updates as the date gets closer. Hopefully my bum iliotibial band and shins can stay healthy enough for this to become a reality.

This has already dragged on more than long enough and I haven’t even mentioned all the brainstorming I did while I was in Kentucky, the new domain name I just bought (and subsequent project I’m excited to start), the ebook I’m releasing on September 6th, or the ebooks I have planned for later in the year. Oh yeah, and the possibility of graduate school.

Sounds like I have plenty to write about in future Saturday posts!

I’m excited to be back from vacation and writing for you guys again. I hope everyone had a great week and let’s get back to it!

Shoot! I almost forgot to mention that David Damron released a new ebook called Simple.Minimalist.Life. It looks to be a pretty solid addition to your minimalism ebook library. Plus, he has a short bio of yours truly in there. David describes me as being “in your face” and a fan of nailing you with “constructive criticism.” I’ve always thought I was pretty mellow but I suppose I can be pretty direct in my writing sometimes. Either way, I’m pretty pumped he decided to include me as an “incredible simplifying influence.” Thanks David!

Thanks for commenting on my blog today. I actually like the “self-focused prattle” and it's why I do it to in my weekly decluttering updates and whenever else I feel like it.

Consider it a throwback to what blogs once were.
