simple saturday links 5/1/2010

Hello from balmy Florida! I arrived in Naples Thursday night for a multi-day American Collegiate Hockey Association and American Hockey Coaches Association convention. Friday morning I attended a USA Hockey Coaching certification clinic in which I got to attend presentations by several notable figures in the hockey coaching world. I even got to shake the hand and talk to the guy who wrote my favorite hockey coaching book, Coaching Hockey Successfully. Anyway, enough about a topic that I’m sure 99% of the readers here care very little about.

As usual, here are a few articles that I really enjoyed this week:

the art of great things: beyond professionals vs. amateurs — Jeffrey asks, what is so special about being a professional? Does a professional necessarily accomplish things better than an amateur? Instead of thinking in these terms, Jeffrey throws around the idea of being a virtuoso. I encourage you to check this article out.

the simple dollar: the zen state of slog work — Trent argues that knocking out the mindless tasks of your job is something that can pay huge dividends. Getting into “the zone” is key to powering through them and getting them done.

goodlife zen: zen meditation; how to enjoy it — This is a great practical guide to getting started in meditation. I have a little bit of experience with meditation a few years ago but my practice has definitely fallen off. This article is a great inspiration.

Thanks for reading my blog and I hope you’ll find some helpful articles here. If you’d like to be notified every time I post a new article, consider subscribing via RSS or email. I’d love to connect with you on Twitter as well!

Thanks everybody! I’m heading back to the beach :)

Thanks for the links. As a teacher, there are definitely parts of my job (the administrative stuff) that are slog-worthy.

    Glad you enjoyed the conference!

As a teacher (or wannabe, I suppose. Stupid job market.) I can definitely commiserate with you :)
