simple saturday links 10/24/2009

  • the new yorker: the history of management consulting– This is a long yet very interesting article detailing the history of “scientific management.” Makes you think about the ends we are all working toward as we ramp up our productivity.  Do you have an “end”?
  • the art of manliness: curing your restlessness– We live in a world of almost endless choices.  With so many options, you would think that our happiness would be off the charts.  Why isn’t that the case? Why do people seem to be happier when they have less to choose from?
  • unclutterer: your stuff isn’t you– A study was done that showed people have an incredibly hard time recognizing faces that have had the eyebrows removed.  People buy “stuff” to express themselves.  Are your doodads and knick-knacks you?  If you threw away your crazy pen collection would people still know who you are? I think so.  Shave off that little bit of hair that hangs out above your eyes and then you will realize what it is like for people to not know who you are.

I save articles and blog posts that have spoken to me in some way in Evernote.  Every Saturday I will provide a couple of these links with a short blurb as to why I saved them.  Hopefully this will provide some new and interesting reading that you may not find otherwise. Feel free to point me toward any articles that you think I might enjoy as well.
