what is thesimplerlife.net?

thesimplerlife.net is about focusing on what matters in your own life. Removing complexity and distractions allows each of us to give our attention to what we really care about.  For me, that means figuring out ways I can focus on learning, teaching, my family, personal fitness, coaching and other values I cherish.  For somebody else, maybe eliminating distractions means they can spend fifteen minutes a day perfecting underwater basket weaving.  Or, removing unnecessary complexity allows someone to spend more time reading to his or her daughter at the end of the day.  Living in an information-rich and high paced society has it’s advantages– I’m no Luddite.  However, there comes a point when decisions about where to expend my energy and attention must be made.  Most people never take the time to examine the way in which they are living and the complexity, chaos and pace of life increases until they wonder, “Why?”

thesimplerlife.com tries to provide the answer to that question.  The “problem” is that  there is not one answer– it will be as varied as the people who read this site.  Living the simpler life can mean something completely different to each person– for some that might mean turning off their television for an extra hour everyday.  For somebody else it could mean selling their home and moving somewhere smaller.  My goal is not to provide a catch-all formula for simplifying mine, or anybody else’s life.  I want to explore the part of my psyche that is attracted to the idea of simplification.

I’ll try to tackle these questions as simply as possible and maybe you will benefit from my musings as well.
